Research and Keeping up to Date
Cancer Prevention with Whey Protein Concentrate
Daily
whey protein concentrate
appears to have benefits for cancers of the prostate, uterus, kidney and bladder according to the journal of Anti-Cancer Research (2000). The whey protein was found to support a critical antioxidant within the body known as glutathione, especially in poor immunity states, such as cancer. A secondary advantage is that the substance is not only effective and beneficial, but also safe and non-toxic.
Improving Hormone Cycles with Flaxseed
According to the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology (1993), menstrual cycles of women who supplemented with lignan rich flaxseed had an improved oestrogen/progesterone ratio with significantly improved regularity in cycles. Later in 1992 and again in 2000, the same journal found a correlation with an increase in flaxseed and isoflavone consumption with significantly improved ‘sex hormone binding globulin’. The 23rd Annual San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (Dec 2000) reported that regular flaxseed alleviated breast pain and lumpiness. The Lancet (1997) noted a ‘substantial reduction in breast cancer risk among women with a high intake of phyto-oestrogens, particularly the isoflavonic phyto-oestrogen equol and the lignan enterolactone’. This is further supported by the Nutrition and Cancer Journal in 1999. Flaxseed meal has the highest measured level of lignans, it is very inexpensive and shows a little prevention that can go an incredibly long way!
Improving IQ
A study published in the Journal of Development Medical Child Neurology (2000) had pregnant and breast-feeding mothers supplementing with DHA. The study found that the DHA significantly improved their child’s mental performance, showing a higher mental development score than infants not receiving supplementation.
Successfully Losing Weight Ketogenically
A study published in Paediatrics, 1998, examined a group of obese adolescents (aged 12-15) and weighing an average of 147.8kg, consuming a ketogenic diet. Over the following 8 weeks, the average weight loss was 15.4kg and dual-energy x-ray and
Bioimpedance
confirmed that the weight loss was predominantly fat. Blood chemistry remained normal and cholesterol levels were improved.

Prostrate Treatment and Outcome
A study published in the prestigious medical journal, the Lancet, 1995, reported that men diagnosed with Prostate Cancer who did no treatment, had a 91.5% survival rate after 10 years, compared to those who had a radical prostatectomy at 90% over the same period. Those who underwent radiation had their 10 year survival rate reduced to 77%.
Hair Dyes Connected to Bladder Cancer
Women who regularly use hair dyes were found to have an increased risk of bladder cancer. Researchers found women using a permanent hair dye at least once a month were 2 times more likely to develop bladder cancer than women not using the permanent hair dye. International Journal of Cancer, 2001
This is one reason why we believe it is so important to do a yearly
detoxification.
Dietary Choices and Prostate Cancer
Studies have shown that the simple restriction of fat intake in men diagnosed with tumour of the prostate, had a markedly reduced progression of the tumour as well as lowered PSA (prostate-specific-antigen) blood levels. Protective phytoestrogens, carotenoids & anti-cancerous phytonutrients were shown to benefit significantly. Australian Family Physician, 2000.
At Essential Health, we commonly see men with symptoms of Prostate Enlargement - urinary retention, dribbling, loss of flow and/or pressure. It can be managed well through specific dietary, nutritional and herbal support.
Lowering Cholesterol
Clinical studies involving nearly 3000 people with elevated cholesterol showed significant reductions when prescribed a prescription based Naturopathic medicine named Cholesstanol. The total cholesterol & LDL decreased by 20-25% whilst the protective HDL increased by 15-25%.
This means a dramatic improvement in the ratio of good to bad cholesterol and their were no side-effects.
Vitamin E and Immunity
Vitamin E protects the immune system as we age (International Journal of Developmental Neuroscience), & supplementation with a modest physiological amount of micro-nutrients improves immunity & decreases risk of infection in old age. Lancet, 1992.
Chemical Exposure and Cancer Risk
Continued exposure to paint, lacquer & varnish may increase risk of various cancers. Women had higher susceptibility, possibly due to more fat depots for storage or to less ability to detoxify environmental carcinogens. Journal Occupational and Environmental Medicine, 2002.
Effective Help for ADD
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD / ADHD) affects 10% of children & in the last decade related prescriptions have risen six-fold. Researchers found significant behavior & cognitive performance improvement in 90% of 37 ADHD children prescribed the herb formula ADFX, with no side-effects. (available only under Naturopathic prescription)
Reversing the Aging Process
A leading group of scientists at Boston University, published the importance of high muscle mass to minimise aging. The better our muscle, the more youthful seems to be our health. Our Practitioners can measure muscle mass & give tips to improve.
